The Loggers would like to bid adieu to two longtime players - one who served us well, and one who bedevilled the crap out of us. J.D. "Salinger" Martinez was a stud from the get-go. Mount Pleasant intentionally walked him more times than Tom Izzo pulled his hair out this season. J.D. is still a free agent after spending last season in LA with the Dodgers, and hitting 33 HR's. We'd like to Darvish him if he comes back to the AL. But, alas, Scott Boros strikes again with his stupid demands, and delayed signings. If that decision comes before draft day (and he DOES come back to the AL), we will have Fred Schmidt and his "no changing of protection list" rule to blame - and we'll again be voting on doing away with this archaic rule, I can guarantee you that.
As for Adalberto "Not my Brother or Dad Raul" Mondesi, this guy was seen as a gem by Maine when he was drafted as a 19-year-old. We patiently waited for his breakout year, through one agonizing injury after another. Alas, his time never really came. And now is the time to part ways. So long Raul, or Adalberto, or whatever the hell you want to call yourself. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
The Loggers also announced after their World Series win that Jose Bautista, who started last season in the radio booth with Ryan "15 Pieces of Flair" Flaherty*, and ended it as the team's third base coach, would be elevated to Manager for 2024, replacing Kirk Gibson, who retired. Bautista is expected to bring some fire to the clubhouse, along with what he promises will be some "interesting lineups".
2024 and 2025 draft notes: The Loggers would OBVIOUSLY like to add Matt Wallner (whose email address is rumored to be WallnerMSU@yahoo.com), but with several lefty hitting outfielders already on the roster, it doesn't appear to be in the cards (pun intended). Perhaps the Bobcats will get him - a natural fit. For 2025, of course Tiger starter Jack "15 pieces of flair" Flaherty is going to be high on our radar, as he's already got his built-in nickname assigned *.
